Movie Review: GODS OF EGYPT

The movie has an Egyptian background and the gods bear similarities to gods of Greece. Where:
god of light is Zeus,
god of the desert is Set
goddess of love is Aphrodite (Venus for Rome)
god of Air is Anemoi
god of Wisdom is Apollo
And other lower level gods.

The movie began with a young lad who stole a cloth for his beloved.  At first you might think it is a recreation of Aladdin and the forty thieves( nice diversion strategy n leading the audience 2 guess wrongly). The beloved has faith in the gods while the young lad was indifferent to them.
The god of air was to be crowned king but was overthrown by his uncle, Set (his father's brother) and the air god s eye was plucked out by the uncle, his father killed, he and other gods sent on an exile. Now if you are scared, this is the part where you might want to close your eyes.

The love sick lad in a quest to free his beloved who is now enslaved, stole one of Horus s eye (God of the air who was overthrown) and in the quest his beloved was killed. Horus promised to bring back his beloved from death before she crosses over. Meanwhile, the god of love is now a mistress to Set s uncle(god of the desert). She offered herself to save Horus s life.

So, the love sick lad (Bek) and Horus set out to steal his other eye kept in the desert. Horus sort his grandfather s help(god of light who stays in the universe fighting off a demon who wants to eat the earth). In summary, he couldn't save the beloved of the love sick lad, his uncle killed the other gods, took their individual powers like god of wisdom s brain, god of protection s wings, the all seeing eye of god of air(Horus) the heart of his brother (Horus s father) and became indestructible, he went to the universe, overthrew his father ,took his lightening rod and drew the earth eating demon to the world to drink from the Nile and destroy the afterlife, thereby disturbing the balance of the world and destroying it and making he, god of the desert immortal.

While Horus was fighting his uncle, the love sick lad threw his eye to him and he sacrificed his eye to save the love sick lad(who later died). By doing that he was able to transform and fly and had his full power back without his other eye. He fought his uncle Set ,killed him and took the lightening rod back to his grandfather just in time before the demon drank from the Nile. god of the light fought back the demon and in repayment for saving his life he Brought back the love sick lad and his beloved back to life and balance restored to the world and happiness and peace brought back to Egypt. There was no more the requirement of using gold to enter the afterlife but entering it due to good deed and lifestyle the person lived om earth.

For myth and fantasy loving individuals, this is a must watch. It has suspense and action that will glue you to the screen till the end and even leave you asking for more. This is because at the end Horus went to the underworld to save the god of love who sacrificed her protection bracelet in other for the love sick beloved to enter the afterlife. If the movie will have a sequel, I think the god of air and his human friend and adviser will battle with Hades who will be the villain in the part 2 and other intriguing additions but we know how it ends with Seth saving god of love and they living happily ever after. Then it's not worth making a sequel but if it has a different ending now this might be another blockbuster ,which I can't wait to see.

This leaves me wondering or pondering that, maybe some Hollywood celebrities believe in the myth of entering the gates of afterlife or heaven with riches hence, some of them demanded or were buried with gold and other material riches. I even read that, a certain rich man was buried with a hummer jeep and whitey Houston was buried with $500 000 worth of riches.

Anyways, the movie should be one of the best and the best I have seen since January 2016. There fore, I give it a high pass. Enjoy the trailer below:
