What You Need to Know About Coconut Oil

Coconut oil scares many away. It is 100% fat. But coconut oil is a GOOD fat for your body and actually helps aid weight loss. Coconut oil’s other health benefits include hair care, skin care, stress relief, dental care, proper digestion and metabolism, protection from heart disease, maintaining cholesterol levels, increased immunity, relief from kidney problems, high blood pressure, diabetes, and improved bone strength.

Because of all the health benefits, coconut oil is considered a superfood. Most of these benefits come from the high content of lauric acid as well as coconut oil’s many other properties such as antimicrobial, antioxidant, antifungal, and antibacterial.

The antimicrobial properties eliminate bad bacteria in your digestive tract and coconut oil itself is easy to digest and doesn’t require the strain on the pancreas that other fats do. And the nutrients and energy from coconut oil are quickly absorbed and ready to use.

Coconut oil is helpful in weight loss because of its short and medium-chain fatty acids. It is easy to digest and helps in healthy functioning of the thyroid and enzymes systems. It also increases the metabolism.

Many still fear fat in the diet. But research has shown that low-fat diets really don’t work. Our bodies need fats – especially foods that contain “healthy fats” such as coconut oil, avocado, nut butters, almonds, walnuts, olive oil, and more. Used properly (and regularly), these fatty foods help keep a trim waistline and prevent obesity!

Coconut oil can be massaged directly into dry skin for soothing relief and younger looking skin. And the antimicrobial properties are excellent for skin care. Coconut oil is also excellent for cooking and baking and has a neutral flavor. It becomes “solid” at or below room temperature and can be quickly heated to produce a syrupy liquid.
